Simon Cowell, next time you google yourself...here's a tip.

So, I am in Minneapolis right now for a software conference. (Yes, it's as fun as it sounds.)

However, I did have a great time last night...and I must say American Idol is not doing its job to find the talent in America.

Having had just about enough of sports, shop talk and creepy leering guys at the conference meet-and-greets, my friend, Heather and I dragged my two work buddies, Sal and Brian, to sing karaoke last night.

We figured, Tuesday night in Minneapolis, at some random bar, a couple of flannel-clad Minnesotans would get up and sing some out of tune Kenny Chesney or some terrible Frank Sinatra, and then we'd sing and pretend we were rock stars, and that would be that.

It wasn't even close to that.

The level of singing talent we witnessed last night was flabbergasting. These people didn't miss a note. There has to be some sort of rock star college nearby or SOMETHING.

There were all different styles, but the people who wanted to rap actually could rap, the people who sang rock could rock out....and the people who did New Kids on the Block....well they probably WERE the New Kids on the Block. Who else would sing that? But, they sounded just like themselves, in that case. And I might add, that more than half of these people looked like models.

I kept wondering if Prince was going to pop out of the woodwork.

So, American Idol, go to Old Chicago at 2841 Hennapin Ave South on a Tuesday night.

Very impressive, Minneapolis. You're through to the next round.

As if I wasn't sad already that I couldn't be there to sing Tiny Dancer with you...

From what I heard your singing wasn't so shabby either. I could hear Randy Jackson bellowing, "We got a hot one in heeeere," all the way in Boston.
